White tea

White tea is the least processed tea with the use of same tea plants camellia sinensis, the selection of leaves for white tea is done with extreme care and it keeps the same till the entire processing and storage. Tea leaves used for this type is mainly the unopened bud or the first shoot which make its production very less as compared to any other tea. Apparently white tea was first made in Fujian province of china and later this is been produced any many regions and countries.

Types of White tea

There are a number of white tea types, some named after the origin of the region and others for some special ingredients that are added to make it special. The five main types of white tea are:

  1. Silver needle
  2. White peony
  3. Noble, Long Life Eyebrow
  4. Tribute eyebrow
  5. DaBaiCha or DaHoaCha

The light taste and the delicate flavor differ from one tea garden to another and are very much influenced by the environment, both in terms of climate and local traditions.

How to brew White tea?

  1. Boil water up to 80 degree to 95 degree Celsius (ideally 125ml to 150ml for one cup).
  2. Use 2.5 to 3 grams of loose white tea in the pot and make sure the pot is rinsed by the hot water to raise its temperature then the room temperature which may not affect the ideal steeping conditions.
  3. Pour tea hot water into the pot or gaiwan containing the white tea and strain after 10-12 seconds which allows the tea pot and the cup to acquire its aroma and also allows the tea to become tender enough to loose its actual sipping characteristics.
  4. Pour the hot water again into the pot containing the white tea and steep for 3 minutes (this can vary as per preferences)
  5. Strain into the cup and enjoy the delicious white tea.
